Police have abandoned plans to launch an investigation into an online blog that claimed Britain’s Got Talent was fixed, amid speculation it was a publicity stunt to boost ratings.

The show was thrown into crisis last week when an anonymous blogger, claiming to work for Sony Music UK, posted a 2,500-word essay on a website alleging the show had been rigged for 12-year-old singer Ronan Parke to win.

Show bosses immediately released a robust defence and warned they would take legal action to ‘prevent further publication of these unfounded allegations’, which included claims that Ronan had met Simon Cowell two years ago and already had a management deal with his company, SyCo.

Hours later, lawyers for Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor boss Cowell, 51, visited a West London police station to report an allegation of malicious communication, a criminal offence punishable by up to six months in prison.

But yesterday police indicated they had no plans to begin a formal investigation.

Scotland Yard sources said it was ‘overwhelmingly unlikely’ that they would look into the origins of the message which was posted from within the UK.

The move came as a police spokesman appeared to suggest the blog had been posted as part of a publicity stunt to boost ratings for the popular ITV programme.

The spokesman said: ‘We had a complaint at a police station in our Kensington and Chelsea borough.

Despite the personalised attack, talented Ronan went into last night’s final as favourite to win the competition and the show’s £100,000 prize.

However, he ended up in second place after Scottish singer Jai McDowall, 24, was the shock winner – with just 2.5 per cent more votes than the schoolboy.

The schoolboy from Norwich, who has been compared to Canadian singer Justin Bieber, was said to be calm and unaffected by all the attention as he prepared to perform Because Of You by American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson on last night’s show.

Other highlights on the show included former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger — girlfriend of Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton — performing her new single Right There, a week after replacing Cheryl Cole as a judge on X Factor USA.

On Friday night Cowell used the Britain’s Got Talent live show to tell the show’s 11.4 million viewers of his anger at what he described as ‘a deliberate smear campaign’ against the series and Ronan.

He said: ‘I have got to address something that has been in the Press today.

‘There has been an allegation made in the papers — not in the papers actually, on the internet by somebody — that Ronan Parke had a previous recording contract with my record label and that I had met him beforehand, both of which are complete and utter lies.’

He added: ‘This is a deliberate smear campaign and it is my job to ensure that, whoever this liar is, is exposed and this kid is treated in the same way as everyone else.’

Cowell, who last night arrived for the finals with his mother Julie, is said to have assembled his own team of computer experts to investigate.

Show sources claimed that leads suggested the blogger was in Germany and that police there were now involved in the case.

Yesterday Martin Troy, the owner of the JustPaste.It website where the article appeared, said he had had no contact from either British or German police over the matter.

Mr Troy also confirmed that the blog had been posted by somebody in the UK using a connection to the internet from a cable TV provider.

A strongly worded communication from lawyers acting on behalf of RCA music group and SyCo entertainment was emailed to JustPaste.It demanding the immediate removal of the blog and an undertaking
‘not to make the posting (or any substantially similar posting) available on your website or any other site controlled by you’.

The email went on to demand that Mr Troy ‘disclose to us the identity and contact details of the author of the posting in order that we can confirm that it has not in fact been written by a Sony executive.’

But Mr Troy has so far refused to co-operate with the company’s demands.

He said: ‘They are asking us to give the internet address of the author but we won’t because no one from the police has been trying to contact us.’

The blog was removed on Friday and replaced by a message that read: ‘Removed due to a claim from Simco Limited (SyCo) and Sony Music Entertainment UK Limited (Sony)’.

But despite the swift action it is believed that the original blog had already been read by more than a million online users.

The blog, titled Britain’s Got Talent — Ronan Parke Connection, first appeared on JustPaste.It at 7pm on Wednesday.

An hour later the first reference to the blog appeared on social media site Twitter, posted by a user called @ukLegion. It read: ‘An industry insider at #BGT spills his guts on how this year has been totally stiched [sic] up for Ronan Parke to win’.

The comments followed a series of unprovoked attacks on Ronan by @ukLegion, whose Twitter account has now been closed.

At 1.51am on Wednesday, 17 hours before the online blog appeared,
@ukLegion wrote on Twitter: ‘Don’t waste your money — #bgt is fixed. Cowell first met Ronan Parke when he was 10 — believe me he was always gonna win this year.’

On Tuesday they wrote: ‘Lot’s of 12 yo’s [year old's] can sing, but their parents aren’t f****** morons, unlike Ronan Parke’s, who put their kid on nat tv.’

Believing @ukLegion to be the person behind the JustPaste.It blog, one Twitter user replied: ‘So it appears that whether you love or hate Ronan Parke, you certainly have an agenda about him.

‘And so it seems massively disingenuous to claim you just stumbled upon the article and tweeted it.’

The identity details of @ukLegion contain a picture of a skull and crossbones and the user describes themselves as a ‘coder and hacker’.

Yesterday Twitter — which does not reveal the identity of its users — refused to unmask @ukLegion.

He may not have won Britain’s Got Talent 2011 but Ronan Parke is still set to rake it in with a £1 million recording contract with Simon Cowell’s Syco label. According to News Of The World Cowell had always planned to sign the youngster, regardless of last night’s results.

Despite being the 1/9 favourite just before the result was revealed, 12-year-old Ronan was pipped to the post by 24-year-old singer Jai McDowall.

A source blamed the upset on claims of fixing which were spread on the internet this week. “Sadly, the result had nothing to do with Ronan’s talent,” the insider told the newspaper. “A lot of people believed the completely false smears on the internet and wanted to punish Simon as a result. The public are against him at the moment, this was their revenge.”

However despite losing out on the top spot in the competition, Ronan will still get a record deal with Simon Cowell’s label, similar to 11-year-old Jackie Evancho who performed on last night’s final.

“Simon believes young stars like Jackie and Ronan are the way for him to make some serious money because Bieber has changed the entire music industry,” an industry insider told the newspaper.

They continued: “If the deal goes ahead, he wants to take Ronan to America in the same way that he has brought Jackie here.

“He will be the most successful BGT winner ever and the most successful British child star ever. He’ll be bigger than Bieber. I’d take him straight to Hollywood, straight to Disney.”

Ronan Parke and Jai McDowall will both take part in the Britain’s Got Talent 2011 live tour starts later this month.

Came across an article that had the voting figures from tonight’s show:

Stephen Mulhern has revealed that the result of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent final was one of the closest in recent years.

The Britain’s Got More Talent presenter revealed on the ITV2 sister show that although Jai McDowall won the series earlier tonight, after receiving the most public votes, he only brought in 2.5% more than young singer Ronan Parke, who has been the bookies favourite to win for weeks.

It was a shock result, however if we’ve learned anything from reality TV series in days gone by, it’s that a performer doesn’t necessarily need to win to succeed. Look at Susan Boyle, who came second on Britain’s Got Talent two years ago and JLS who lost out to Alexandra Burke on The X Factor the same year.

Ronan managed to come in second place in the competition ‘Britains Got Talent’. As a fan I’m a little disappointed, but mostly proud. He did a great job, his best performance yet. Here is what the judges said:

After receiving a standing ovation from all four judges, McIntyre said: ‘Ronan… seriously… that was perfect. I’m such a great fan of yours. It was perfection from the first note. It showed off how much strength you have in your voice.’

Holden said: ‘You’re a credit to your parents and to this show.’

Cowell, who vehemently denied reports this week that he had already signed up the boy to his record label, said: ‘How are you Ronan, had a nice quiet week? How you’ve coped with everything so well as your age… this is a big, big song. You nailed it. You did brilliantly.’

Afterall, Jedward didn’t win X Factor, but have the most successful careers out of all the contestants.
